Feast 2014 update After a wet, showery start to the day proceedings were a bit slow to start, however, when the sun came out so did the people - the afternoon was a great success with a dog show followed by an agility display. The have a go agility was very popular with much entertainment from some 'character' dogs. There were sideshow, stalls, a barbecue and refreshments and all the fun of the fair. During the afternoon the marquee held the Horticultural Society's Show with many people exhibiting their prize vegetables and flowers plus home produce. This was followed by a children's disco with the main event disco later in the evening. Thanks to all who came to support us. The grand total of £1112.00 was raised and cheques were sent to the Royal British Legion, Help for Heroes and the Balsham War Memorial repair fund.
The WW1 Commemorative and Village Photographic Display was held in the Institute during the afternoon and we hope we were able to suitably commemorate the brave men of Balsham who left their homes and families to fight in this terrible war. Also on show were snapshots of the village and population over the last 100 years plus a display of maps from the 1617 Map Group, some of which went back over 400 years. Quite a few memories and stories came out of the afternoon which was lovely and made it so more personal
Balsham Feast 2014
Our traditional and ever popular bi-annual Balsham Feast
will be taking place this year on Saturday 5th July at the local Recreation
As 2014 is the centenary of the beginning of World War I we
intend to theme our event around this era to honour the 160 men of Balsham who
left their homes and families to fight in this war. Also planned is an exhibition of village photographs
and memorabilia to show how our village was affected and changed during these
war years and afterwards.
Our goal is to raise funds to assist with repairs to the Balsham
Village War Memorial, plus donations to the British Legion and Help the Heroes.
This year we hope to make it bigger and better - there will be a flower and vegetable show; dog show; dog agility demonstration; for all you star bakers there will be the Great Balsham Bake off, plus car boot and plenty of side stalls and attractions. Refreshments available all afternoon and evening, plus licensed bar.
The Balsham Feast
The Balsham Feast is a bi-annual Summer event organised by the Balsham Ploughmen. The Feast takes place on the Balsham recreation ground from early afternoon into the night. During the day, there is a funfair, stalls, fun activities, refreshments and a pet show. Once the stalls are cleared away, a live band plays in the marquee with food and drink provided by one of the local pubs.
As of March 2011, plans are well under way for the bi-annual Balsham Feast to be held Saturday July 2nd. We hope to follow the usual format of a traditional fete in the afternoon followed by an open air band in the evening. If you would like to be involved in this event by having a stall/entertainment, have any ideas that we could use or simply require more information then please contact any of the Ploughmen or Jan on 01223 894887 or email Janice.firstname.lastname@example.org.
